David Kendrick, Jr. was born in Rochester, NY and graduated from Eastridge High School in 2005. Unsure of what to do with his life, he ultimately decided to join the Army as a Cavalry Scout. David’s unit deployed to Iraq in October of 2006 when he was only 19. On June 17th, 2007, he was shot in both legs by a sniper, suffering a broken femur, a severed femoral artery and severe nerve damage. It took David three years to heal from his injuries, after which he returned to Rochester and found that there were few resources available for him. David reached out to the local media for help, and they connected him with the staff at Warrior Salute in Webster, NY. He enrolled and moved into his own apartment. During his time at Warrior Salute, he gained interview skills, resume writing skills and financial skills. One year later he graduated, but his impact there and on other veterans continued. Soon after graduating he was offered a position as an activities coordinator at Warrior Salute. He took veterans to appointments and helped them find recreational activities. In this new position he also served as a mentor to new veterans in Warrior Salute. David also graduated from the entrepreneurship bootcamp for veterans program at Syracuse University. After a year as the activities coordinator, he moved to Atlanta, Ga. After arriving in Atlanta, he went to school to pursue his Bachelor’s from DeVry University and graduated in 2016 and then completed his Master’s in 2018. Today, David operates his own company, Lion Speaking Agency, and gives motivational speeches in addition to writing resumes for both veterans and civilians around the country.
