GROUP COUNSELING:
The Warrior SALUTE Program offers a variety of clinical groups designed to meet the individual needs of Service Members. The skills learned in these groups are designed to help participants improve performance and comfort in professional and personal situations.
Relaxation Training
A series of groups designed to help participants learn to relax their bodies and quiet upsetting thoughts so they can better perform work functions, interact with others, and feel more comfortable in a variety of settings.
Anger Management
Anger is a normal and necessary emotion; however, when anger takes over, the results can devastate professional and personal relationships. Ongoing groups provide education on the physiology of anger. Participants learn how to recognize warning signs, identify when anger is and is not appropriate, and learn effective ways to stay calm, negotiate, and walk away.
Sleep Hygiene
PTSD symptoms can significantly impair sleep. Learn ways to promote healthy sleep patterns through development of healthy routines, diet, exercise, and relaxation.
Problem Solving
One of the primary causes of sadness is unresolved problems. This program guides participants through the steps of clearly identifying problems, generating solutions, and developing a plan of action.
Communication Skills
Communication becomes more difficult following a war trauma. The feeling that others will not understand can push away loved ones and cause isolation. Discuss barriers to “opening up” and practice ways to effectively communicate both pleasant and unpleasant thoughts.
Brain Fitness
Both TBI and PTSD can impact memory, concentration, and decision-making. This group guides participants through activities that allow for practice, re-training, and learning new skills toward a more efficient brain.
Trauma Recovery
The cornerstone of PTSD therapy is the trauma recovery group. Research has shown that the steps taken in this supportive group experience is the best way to treat the symptoms of trauma that invade thoughts, impact behaviors (withdrawal, hyper-arousal), hurt relationships, and impair sleep.
